South Bay United Programs:
South Bay United's objective is to provide each and every player the opportunity to reach the highest level of play that they want for themselves. By providing the practice time, coaching resources, and the game experience, we give each player the opportunity to work as hard as they want to reach their goals.
Players should try to come to every practice because this allows them to get the most out of the program. We understand that things happen and you won't be able to make practices now and then. Games are, arguably, more important than practice because they test your ability to apply your skills and knowledge in a competitive situation. However, coaches tend to reward those who have shown the commitment and dedication of consistently attend practice.
Teams
The 3 main criteria used to determine South Bay United's team rosters are age, numbers and ability.
Players are selected to teams based on USA Water Polo age group classifications. Your "water polo" age is defined as the age you are on December 31st of that year. For example, if you turn 15 on December 28, 2010, according to USA Water Polo you are 15 for all of 2010 and should compete in the 16U age group.
In the event that we have enough members to field more than one team within an age group, players are selected for each team at the coach's discretion.
Age Groups for 2010
- 10U Born in 2000 or later
- 12U Born in 1998 or later
- 14U Born in 1996 or later
- 16U Born in 1994 or later
- 18U Born in 1992 or later
If a player would like to try-out for the club to see if they are interested in playing they must:
- Register with USA Water Polo and
- Register & Pay fees with South Bay United
The player will have 1 week, or 3 practices, to make their decision on whether or not they want to stay with the club. If the decide that they do not want to continue with the program the club will reimburse them. The club will not reimburse players who decide to leave after they have been practicing for more than one week.
Code of Conduct
The integrity and stature of our organization and its members is determined as much by the actions of the players and coaches as it is by the actions of our supporters and spectators. Good sportsmanship and courtesy are the responsibilities of anyone associated with South Bay United Water Polo. We require that all players and parents understand and abide by the conditions listed in our Expectations and Conduct document.
Water polo is a physical game and the physicality increases as the caliber of the players and the importance of the game intensifies. Intent to inflict harm is entirely unacceptable to USAWP and to South Bay United. Verbal abuse is also unacceptable. Repeated violators will be removed from the team rosters.
